Semester project proposal
For the semester project, please work in teams of two or three.
Prepare a proposal for your semester project. The project should
present an adequate challenge level and have the potential to
cover all relevant areas as listed below. You may not be familiar
with all areas at this time, but it is sufficient to address the
individual aspects as we cover them i nclass.
- Description and modeling of the process
- Controller design
- Open and closed loop response
- Frequency response
- Stability considerations
- Computer simulation (if appropriate)
Examples for typical projects are: The inverted
pendulum, or levitating balls in a tube with air flow.
Your project proposal should include the following items:
- Brief description of the process, including its input
(setpoint) and output (controlled) variables, and the
disturbance. A sketch of the process should be included.
- List of materials that are available in the building.
- List of materials that we may need to purchase. This list
may include kits (e.g., from www.jameco.com or similar suppliers),
mechanical or electronic components, or custom parts that we may
ask Pat to machine for us.
- A cost estimate and a complete list of sources and suppliers.
- Names of the team members and tentative assignment of the
design tasks to team members
Turn in your typewritten and printed proposal by 02/12/07 for approval.
Your proposal, submitted in time, will give you 15 points towards your
total score, two points for erach of the items above and 5 additional points
for a well-parepared proposal, turned in in a timely manner.
